Largest Size Rim and Tire on 98 Blazer???

I have a stock 98 Blazer that i do not plan on dropping at all but i would like to throw some 20s on there if its possible without any problems. Can somebody tell me if you can put 20s on a stock height blazer with any problems and if so what size tires would i use with those.

Re: Largest Size Rim and Tire on 98 Blazer???

The largest we have ever test fit is an 18" without clearance issues. None of the wheel makers we work with even make larger wheels for the Blazer. It simply can't handle that large of a wheel/tire.

18s are good for me cause im still wanna have some tire cause im from NY where theres a lot of potholes. What size tire would work with that 18 inch rim though without it being a problem with the steering and without it coming out of the wheel well? Also, ive seen tons of blazers with 20 inch rims, how does it work for them?

Re: Largest Size Rim and Tire on 98 Blazer???

The biggest tire sizes we have test fit here are a 255/50-17 or a 235/50-18. You can run up to a 235 without rubbing in the wheel wells (even lock to lock steering) but the 255s are very tight and may rub when parking etc... The guys running 20" are typically running underload tires or are using wheels that are offset so far that they are replacing wheel bearings on a regular basis. The hubs just can't handle those offests for long. It puts too much stress on the bearings. The other issue is weight. Most 20" wheels/tires are going to weigh quite a bit more. The brakes on these earlier trucks are not going to be able to handle the added stress. That's why you see these guys buying the big brake upgrades as well. It takes more brake force to stop that much weight from rotating. For most situations, I would suggest sticking with a nice 17". That's about the maximum the Blazer can handle without a lot of work and $$$.

On the tirerack.com website, when you look at the rims for the 98 blazer and you click on the ones that are 18s, it says the recommend tire is a 255/55-18....Are you telling me if i got 18s with those tires that id have trouble with clearence and rubbing??

On the 2WD yes, on the 4WD no. It depends on which Blazer model. I assumed the worst case since you didn't specify which one you had. On the 2WD the 255 will sometimes rub when in tight steering situations like in a parking lot. Your 4WD will have no clerance issues with the 255.

Yes i have a 4WD 98 Blazer. So i should have no problem what so ever getting myself some 18s with some 255/55-18s?? I dont wanna have to worry about tryin to make like a u-turn and my tire starts to rub. Im assuming the 255/55 has a decent ammount of rubber on them so if possible id like to stick those on my 4wd blazer.

Yoo.. I have a Stock 98 Blazer S-10 4x4 Also.. I have 20" KMC Kingpins on it with 265 75R 20 Toyo Proxy S/Ts on it

In order for them to Fit I had to trim a small area on the Bottom Front fenders that isnt visible on the outside of the car really.. and I had to Crank the Torsion bars all the way up.. and on the Passenger side for some reason.. I took at the Bottom Innner Fender well Bolt for a little extra Clearance.. it ended up giving around 3/4 in clearance for the turning radius..

I have pics if you would like to see.. Pz

I think if you got some low profile tires, you might be able to fit 20's, or at least 19's.
