2005 Accord EX 3.0L AT tranny & general questions
Search didn't come up with anything for this year.... a few questions.... i have no experience with hondas.
this is a friend's car... 100k ish (didn't look) she has no idea if the fluid was changed before she got it.... she has no issues with tranny operation. so i am going to just drain from the plug (told her absolutely don't get it flushed!) i figure it takes 2 quarts, probably get 3 to be safe.????? honda AZ1 AT fluid ... any aftermarket equivalent ? or only *safe* bet is genuine honda fluid? gonna do a drain from the plug only, and replace about every 6 months 3 times (I estimate she does 15k-20k miles yr) her coolant recovery bottle is about empty... again, genuine honda type 2 coolant or is there a *safe* aftermarket equivalent? (im *not* into that prestone "works with any coolant" stuff) 2005... what generation is that, 7 or 8? what other years are in the generation group. Some idiot at the quick lube crossthreaded the bolt in the airbox and impossible to remove to replace the air filter without busting the plastic apart... need the year group for that 3.0L for a salvage yard trip to replace the air box. CAI is about $270 im not even going to mention that route.. any common issues with brakes? she complains about a shimmy on braking but *no* pedal pulsating... front brakes look fine (looks like a good design, compared to my Ram) ... kinda ruled out an uneven rotor. i did pull the front pads, and buffed the pads and rotor (case there was any brake lining embedded on the rotor)... she said after that they worked perfect for about 1k miles. -- bearings maybe? im sorta thinking her tires just need balancing before really looking into it more. that's alot.. thanks in advance! |

Re: 2005 Accord EX 3.0L AT tranny & general questions
Hi, Kevin.
I think you are on the right track: Honda's transmissions do not like any other fluid but Honda ATF. If you use something else the transmission may develop shifting problems. The exchange fluid procedure is correct. I would do it though three times but with shorter intervals. Let us say every five-six miles or so. That what Honda recommends. I have read many discussions about Honda coolant: lot of opinions. Google's Honda group is a good source. I hope other forum members will chime in and answer your other questions. Good luck, Sam

thanks for the feedback.... with GM's fiasco about dexcool and sludge ... which affected one of my cars... was a little unsure about not using good old fashioned green ethylene glycol... which i have never seen sludge up in a car.
