99 Tahoe radio lights...shot

Greetings, about a year back my radio lights started failing one after another. Now I'm down to 'eject' and the 5, I think. ;O)
Dealer says the fix is that they pull the unit and farm it out to a shop that will relamp it.
Seems that it's cheaper to buy a new aftermarket stereo.
Any thoughts or similar mass lamp burnouts happen to anyone?
Regards,
Stymie.

I have a 97 hoe and have the same problem. I thought about getting another one from the salvage yard as my dealer quoted me about $125 and I found alot of radios used for less than that, plus you would not have the down time.

Check eBay, they got anywhere from 40-60 dollars for a new one. I have to get one, mine is down to Eject, 2, 5, and recall.

I had one of mine burn out about 6 mo. ago, and now in the last week it suddenly is working again! Maybe one by one they will come back on again! Have not heard of that happening to anyone...

A freind of mine who is pretty handy with electronics stuff said he just bought the replacement LED bulbs from Radio Shack and soldered them in himself. They are less than $1 ea. He said the hardest part was just getting the radio out!

I have a link to the instructions on how to do get it out and back in again, if you are interested I could dig it up...
