Question Rebuilding 95 eclispe RS engine

Here's what happened, a friend and me were racing one night, and I blew my piston rings and a few other things. Right before it blew I hit 130mph on stock engine.

Racing a WRX STI, I knew I wouldn't win, but it was for fun, and that fun turned out to be a bad night for me!

The block and head is fine!

I need to rebuild it anyways, as it has over 185K miles on the engine!!!

I need to get a list of all the parts to rebuild the engine completly, Top and bottom end. I also want to install a turbo kit on it with front intercooler.

What parts will I have to find and buy to complete this job?

Where could I find these parts at also, not ebay either, if anyone wouldn't mind telling me!

I would like to have about 350hp!

I have some parts listed that I know that I will change below, some I am not for sure about, so any help would be cool:

pistons
piston rings
cams
cam gears
valves
valve springs
headers
cat-back exhaust
camshaft
retainers
throttle body
fuel rail
fuel injectors
fuel pump
fuel filter
fuel lines
crankshaft <---? Not for sure
Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Connecting Rods
Headstuds and Fasteners
motormounts
lifts <-----? Not for sure
pulleys <--- Getting from fluidampr.com
Roller Rockers <-----? Not for sure
Intake Manifold <-----? Not for sure
Rod Bearings <-----? Not for sure
Rods
Rod Ends <-----? Not for sure
Spherical Bearings
Gasket Set
Altenator
Water Pump
Power Steering Pump
All O2 Sensors
AC compressor Pump
Radiator
Starter
Oil Pan
Oil Filter <---- Of Course!
All Hoses
Wiring Harness
Struts <--- Need new ones anyways!
Springs <-- Need new ones anyways!
Valve Cover
New Cold Air intake
Breather <-----? Not for sure

AND Turbo kit! <--- What is a good one?

Whyyyyyyyy would you do this. You own a 95 RS with a blown motor. Junk that POS. Don't waste your money. Save all that money you are going to put into it, and buy a turbo eclipse.

On another note, the guy in the STI must feel like a complete douche bag for racing an RS. I doubt you got to 130 mph against him. He would have to be back to highway speeds and home by the time you hit that.

not getting rid of the eclipse, sorry, thats what everyone else has told me to do. I'm going to keep it and work on it. I've put hours into it, for it to run good, on stock engine!

Ok, do you have any idea how much that is all going to cost? Thats a damn lot of money to be putting into a car with a blown ass engine and almost 200k miles. I would scrap the GS, get a 1g turbo awd and pimp that shit, just my 2 cents.

Re: Rebuilding 95 eclispe RS engine

A couple questions:
Do you have a budget?
Are you doing this yourself?
Do you have any experience building engines?

This will cost alot and take a lot of time. Im totally behind you on this. You guys shouldnt shoot him down. He wants to build an engine. Shit, I wanna build an engine. I think it would be a lot of fun. It is alot of work too. He wants to build up the engine, and everyone tells him to buy a new car. No matter what, there will always be something better. We shouldnt shoot down people because they want to try something new, or make something better. When someone asks, "should I rebuild my 4g63 turbo engine?" everyone says yeah. You rarely ever hear, "hell no!! Buy a Porshe or Evo or STi, or M3." There is always something out there that is better. 95dsmracer obviously wants to do a little project. Good for him! He's not taking the easy way out. He's taking the time to see how everything gets done. If the engine rebuild goes fine, he could actually help out better with engines than most people here. The only way to learn is by doing. And thats what he wants to do. Good luck.

My 2 cents

Yeah, I'm not saying you shouldnt rebuild an engine, I would just do it on a 4g63. I think you willl get faster times and it will do less damage on your wallet to build up an already turbo or turbo awd dsm. Either way, give yourself LOTS of time, be sure you have all the tools you will need, and dont take short cuts. Good luck!

My 2 cents
I have $12,000 dollars behind me.
My brother and me is rebuilding the engine
A little experience (my brother has 6 years)

Thanks david, atleast someone thinks it may be worth while, i've done to much to this body of the car already.

Actully....

Actully I found a 4G63T complete engine w/ Transmission, no ecu for $1850.

I was wondering if I could just do a direct engine swap, without having to modify anything on my rs?

Got to go and format this computer now! This Sucks! Takes forever to format 2 400Gb hard drives!

Do you think you're the first person to ever think of doing this in 10 years? Do a damn search or look in the FAQ at the top of the forum.

Re: Rebuilding 95 eclispe RS engine

I'd say go with the swap, if you've got that kind of money laying around you could buy a bare block and head and put some good stuff inside it
