New X owner bizzatches!

Well not me personally... My brother, im a 300ZX guy. My brother is buying his 2001 Xterra 3.3 4WD. Now I know the VG30DE engine (and im sure the Xterra has a VG33DE engine... Right???? I know the stripped down version is a KA24DE... Not a bad engine, but that SUV should be a V6 all the way around) so we should be good with mantainance and sh*t like that. So what do you guys think of this car? Good gas mileage (knowing the VG engine... it wont be pretty, haha ) good ride, smooth shifting etc? Basically im trying to get your opinions here. So hit me up guys! Peace

Re: New X owner bizzatches!

VG33E, not DOHC.
Yeah, good durable engine.
It's not a car.
Mileage: EPA mileage estimates are readily available, most fall within them though a few manage to see +/- 5 MPG deviations during even routine driving. With the engine's modest output and the Xterra's weight, fuel consumption is more V8-like, but anyone that bitches about it should have known better.
Ride: it's based on a truck, but most find that with that in mind it's actually quite good.
Shifting: lever seems rediculously tall, but if you put that aside it turns out to be well-positioned for most. Can't comment on smoothness, don't have a manual and never cared on the vehicles I had.

Now if I may offer some advice, please drop the punk-ass homeboy 'tude here. That might play in your F&F Z-car circle, but it won't go over with the Xterra crowd. Here's hoping your brother has a little more polish when he comes around.

Brent

Re: New X owner bizzatches!

O sorry man, didnt know I was offending you there. But your conception was wrong about me, not a 2fast2queer tuner type. Seeming as my Z is completely stock on the outside... Not about image in my car, im about having a car that I can have fun with, if I cared about image I would own a riced up super-Civic. And im not a home-boy either. I dont know too many home-boys that listen to death metal, and surf and skate. But its cool, I was just joking around, sorry. But thanks for the advice man, dont take me so serious.

Yea I noticed the shifting knob is like poking you in the chin, haha. I guess a few minutes in the machine shop with it can certainly change that, huh? . But im not sure if he is planning on modding the supspension or what, but I know hes after some more power. Im going to install a cold air intake system for him, and try and dig up something concerning the ECU from Stillen prehaps. And whats the MAF size on this SUV? I was thinking the Twin Turbo 300ZX MAF meter would add some air flow eh? (It worked on my Z ) Aight thanks for the advice guys, and dont take what I say so offensive, ask anyone in the other forums, im just the kind of guy who messes around a lot. Peace
