I was reading one of your other post. Well you said something about the axels not working with the suspension of your stock civic if u do a engine swap. About that well it's a JDM engine doesn't it just bolt in and they do some wiring and put in the axels? What else is there? Does the right hand drive for the JDM engine affects anything?

Re: Rice-Rocketeer

First off, most engines that you buy are Vtec enabled and most civics you swap them into didn't come with Vtec. In this case you replace the ECU with that of the engine you got and then you need to modify the wiring harness that hooks up to the new ECU to accept various things that the car didn't have before, like a knock sensor for example. This goes for any USDM or JDM swap twhere the donor has non-vtec wiring. I've heard of some harnesses already being equipped with the wires you need even though you never needed when the car was stock. That's Honda trying to save costs and not having to make two different harnesses. As for which cars came like this, couldn't tell you. Just gotta get a halms manual, dig in and find out.

As for the axles, you need to get axles from other hondas OR make custom length axles which will cost you alot more. As for anything else, yeah like I said, the downpipe might not match up to your stock or aftermarket exhaust. You should get the catalytic converter of the engine you're swapping in and get custom exhuast piping made for you.

As for the car being right hand drive, no that doesn't affect anything. The steering components are on the wrong side which don't affect the engine. And IF the JDM transmission were to have the numbers reversed along with everything else. (Meaning for us 1st gear to the upper left) If they were to have it reversed (1st being in the upper right) Then when you swap over a JDM tranny you'd have to shift that way. But it's exactly the same as the USDM system and linkages all hook up the same way so no, RHD doesn't affect anything.

There will be small things here and there that are engine specific. Example for the B18C1 swap, if I remember correctly, for you maintain various features like AC, you need a bracket from a del Sol VTEC engine. Things like that. That's why you need to research and find out which axles you can use, how you modify the wiring harness, which linkages you use, ect.

Ok that was confusing... but did you say JDM motors have first gear in the upper right? Im not completely a motor head (you guys know that) but last I knew, JDM motors have the SAME gearing locations (first is upper left, second is below, etc) even though the driver is on the opposite side, the gear location is the same USDM or JDM...

R-R...

Oh don't do that to me sparqy. I know you're better than that:

It's hypothetical situation. OK Forget that paragraph and replace it with the overall meaning. NO, Right Hand Drive does not affect the engine at all.

Hey thanks. Interesting. I want to do a civic hatch with like a b18c1 engine in it. So let me get this right. I'll need a new ecu, wiring harness, Engine and tranny, the axels that came with the engine and maybe a new downpipe or cat?
