Very keen motherly instinct! That's totally nuts, and a horrible thing to have happen. I still feel very badly for the girl though... She's spent her formative years with what she thought was her family, and now she's going to find out that the life she's known is gone, not to mention a total sham (providing that she is the kidnapped girl).

DNA tests proved she is the kidnapped girl - and I feel awful for her. Imagine at the age of 6 being taken from the only mother you've known, and being told that your "mother" is an evil evil person..

Meanwhile her "real" parents have missed out on every baby milestone such as first step, first word, etc...they have lived for years thinking their only daughter is dead...

The only "worse" case than this I've seen is in a book I have, about a nurse who stole one woman's baby by drugging her upon admittance to the hospital, delivering the child, and placing a dead baby from the morgue in between the woman's legs. When she woke up the doctors all thought she was just some crack-whore who delivered a stillborn baby...she protested that she hadn't used any drugs but they didn't believe the "raving junky".
This wasn't discovered until a few years later when the nurse decided she wanted another baby. She went over to visit a pregnant neighbor, then drugged her with a paralyzing agent. While the woman was paralyzed but conscious, the nurse slit her throat, then performed a c-section, took the baby, and left the dying mother to be found by her 6-year old son.

That's an incredible story. I heard it on the radio this morning and was going to look it up so thanks for posting the links.

First of all, it’s incredible how on-the-ball the mother is, not freaking out when recognising her kid but taking hair samples instead. Genius.
Secondly, it’s incredible how incompetent the police and firefighters are. The mother told them the kid wasn't in the crib and that the window was open, but they dismissed it as nerves. And wouldn’t they have found a burnt body had a baby burned to death in the house?

As for the story about the nurse, that makes me sick, absolutely horrific. I hope she got to spend the rest of her life behind bars for that.

I was just watching this story on MSN, apparently the firefighters and police concluded that the infants body disintegrated in the heat of the fire.

Disintegrated? Why? Was the house on fire for a month? Small body or not i would have thought there would be some remains, or at least traces of human substances. I could be wrong... any firefighters on AF? i recall reading a post started by one a few days ago, cant find it anymore...

I would think some trace of an infants body burning up in the crib would make it through. Granted they are small, there are denser bones that I would expect to survive.
