3000gt V 99 taurus LX

i was behind my friend's taurus last night when a 3000gt went flying by me and caught up to the taurus. now i assumed he wanted to race me and seeing that he had a base 3kgt i knew he had no chance but my friend in the taurus and him stopped at a stop light. i wasnt sure about this race but i figured my friend may beat him. the ligth turns green and they go. the taurus jumps him off of the line and has him all the way down. i followed and also passed the 3000gt not to long after laughing all the way. while passing i saw him shifting his automatic like crazy making me wonder wtf is he doing lol.

Re: 3000gt V 99 taurus LX

Um it would depend on what year base...91-96 you are talking a 3.0L 222hp DOHC engine, 97-99 161hp SOHC. And I still don't think a taurus would even destroy the 2nd gen base...but as you seem to have stated the driver did seem a bit incompetant.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: 3000gt V 99 taurus LX

i totally agree with you. I dont think a 2nd gen base would lose to a Taurus. 91-96 3000gt base would kick the Taurus's ass really bad. Not only Taurus's but many other cars too.

if it was a 5speed v6 taurus it might be belivable against an auto 3000gt but if it wasnt it might be questionable

Re: 3000gt V 99 taurus LX

sure it wasn't a sho? anyway base model auto 3kgt's are slow as hell, so i completely beleive the story. also if it was a sl there's still a chance he just can't drive very well.

Re: 3000gt V 99 taurus LX

hey dont forget 91-96 3000gts base were the same as the SLs so there is no way a stock 3000gt would lose to a taurus Lx. even if its an automatic. unless the driver sucked really bad. now against 97-99 base model that is more of a drivers race.

Re: Re: 3000gt V 99 taurus LX

the 99LX got lucky against a bad driver. The LX is seriously underpowered vs weight unless he either had the 3.0L 24v Duratec in his car, or he was a sho with the V8. the Tec puts out 200 hp with 200 trq and the SHO is about 235hp I believe, not sure on torque. I have the Duratec in my 98 SE. as for a Taurus having a manual, the newer body styles, mid 90's & up were automatics only, even the SHO's were autos as well. but, i could be wrong.

Re: 3000gt V 99 taurus LX

the LX comes with 200 hp and 200 pounds of tourque. the 3000gt he raced had about 161 hp and like 185 pounds of torque. which is pathetic... so the taurus easily won.

Re: 3000gt V 99 taurus LX

and on the weight thing the taurus weighs only like 150 pounds more. the 3000gt weighs 3200 and the taurus weighs 3350 or so.
