Unhappy Heater 97 Grand Prix wacko

Help! We just purchased a 97 Grand Prix with automatic thermostat heater (all push button, set climate control). I have tried everything (yes, I read the manual) but I cannot seem to control the heat. It jumps randomly from hot to cold, even when set on 90 degrees, recirculating or auto..nothing seems to help. Also, vent to left of driver does not seem to be blowing. Can someone tell me what could be causing this? Don't know if AC is same, too cold right now. Blessings..Melanie

Re: Heater 97 Grand Prix wacko

Mel, check if the heater core hoses are installed. Open the hood and look for the firewall. There you should see 2 hoses coming out of it. If these are cut then there is no way you can heat up the cockpit. The other thing would be check the motor that turns the baffle that controls the heat/cool air flow in your car. That is what I can think of since no heat is flowing in the car and everything else works fine then could be that no hot water is flowing to the heater core.

Re: Heater 97 Grand Prix wacko

Just as soon as the sun is up, I am out there checking hoses! Thank you! A little more info..the heater works occasionally. The fan always works. It is one of those dratted electronic-digital-automatic-thermostat-why-did-they-do-that thing. It blows cold for 15 minutes, gets warm. blows cold. Supposed to stay hot when set on 90. What a mess. I could write for a week and not explain the things it does.....
