Evaporator, Who has changed one?

Hello,
Being new to the site I might as well ask a question. My front evaporater has a leak at the o-rings, this is according to Firestone. They charged the system and replaced a valve (?) and everything was cold for about a day and then it started to get warm. By the 4th day it was back at Firestone and they injected dye and found it leaking by the firewall and on the rack. They traced it back to the evaporator and suspect the seals are bad. I have a Haynes on the T&C but it doesn't cover A/C evaporator removal. It does talk about the heater core and how to get at it. Are they located next to each other or stacked?

Bill

Re: Evaporator, Who has changed one?

Leaking o-rings do not require a new evaporator. Only a leak in the evaporator core dictates replacing it. I invested the $25 for online access to the factory manual from www.alldatadiy.com. This has the procedure for replacing the evaporator, but I really think you can fix this with just o-rings. Find a real Air Conditioning shop, not a tire store.
