Red face error codes

I have a 2002 Alero.
Just had the coil pack changed.
Next day, the service engine soon light is on again.
I need to find out if there is a problem or if it is just in
need of an oil change.

Is there a way to get the error code out without having a scan tool?
I know cars used to have sequences to go through to get them ( they would flash a light to get the code ).

Does my car have such a way to get the error code out.
The other alternative is to just reset and see if it comes on again.

Turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Pump the gas pedal slowly 3 times. This should solve the light. Try it, it works.

Your vehicle is equipped with OBD2 diagnostics..the only way to retrive diagnostic trouble codes is with a code reader or scan tool.
If the SES light has come on, there is a code stored in the PCM that will aid with diagnostics..clearing the code will do nothing without fixing the problem.
