Exclamation Brakes

While I was changing the brake pads on my 1989 Honda Accord LXi, the thing that applies pressure to the shoes to push up against the drum, well anyways that popped open and brake fluid came out. (Only a little) and now, when the car is running, the brake peddle will not firm up, but when the car is off, after I pump it the brake peddle will firm up. Please help me ASAP! Any advice would be great!

Re: Brakes

Bleed the brakes.

The wheel cylinder (brake cylinder) should not be effected if you accidentally pull off the rubber dust cap, unless you manage pull the cylinder completely apart. If this happens you will need to re-assemble the wheel cylinder and bleed it. It is normal for there to be a couple of drops of fluid behind the dust cap, but if there is more than a couple of drops then the wheel cylinder seals have gone bad and the cylinder should be rebuilt or replaced.

Re: Brakes

Just thinkin'...
Did you adjust your brakes after you replaced them?

To do this you need to drive the car back and forth a couple of times and brake firmly. You should also adjust your E-brake by pulling it up 1 click and tightening the adjustment nut until there is a little drag at the rear wheels (usually done while the car is still on jack stands).
