knockning noise from front of engine

My 2003 trailblazer makes a weird ticking noise coming from the fan location. I brought it in to the dealer and they replace the clutch for the fan. They said "they don't know what the ploblem is" and that GM said to replace the clutch for the fan and if it still make that noise then they don't know what it could be. Guess what it's making that noise again
:-( ...
It's really weird it makes that ticking noise (Intermittent) when idling.

Help!

Hey Burgy, I see that you have read my post. Have you tried using a higher octane such as 89? I did change to 89 and I have not noticed the ticking. Then again who knows what it could be. I also took it in to the DS and they said the sound was normal..BTW what are you using 87 or 89?? Hope this helps you...

No Mine is still there after it's warm. I use 87 Gas I will give the 92 a try and see if it helps.

Spray some water on the belt, careful. Be surprised what noises the belt can make sometimes. Grease spot, salt, hard section.

Re: knockning noise from front of engine

My truck also has a taping noise, that sounds like its coming from the fan area. when the truck warms up it goes away. it's been doing that since it was brand new. also when its real cold it makes a sort of buzzing noise also, but its from the engine, that also goes away. I found out from someone at a chevy dealer. that these trucks usually come up with problems that are hard to figure out. Like I get a noise from underneath when I shift into reverse. not all the time but at least when i first shift into reverse. then it wont do it again if I shift back into reverse right away. its like a clinck noise. they replaced my driveshaft 2 times. it would stop the noise for a short while, but it comes back. But it has no effect on the way it drives. I mean it's still a smooth ride. But for all the money we spend on these trucks, we should not have to deal with any problems.

A moajority of the time it is the fan clutch making the noise, when replacing the fan clutch also make sure it has the latest software updates in the computer. (The computer controls the fan clutch.)
