Unhappy 2002 Camry With Rust. Anyone Else???

I bought a 2002 toyota white camry in may of 2002, this was my fourth camry in 10 years. In october of 2002 rust spots, flakes started to appear on the cars bumper, hood, top of fenders, roof and spoiler. I took the car back to the dealership at Maroone Toyota in Davie, Fl. Tracey in service looked over the car and told me the car needed a wax and compound to take out the rust marks. I paid to have it done privately at a professional detail shop because they said i was responsable, hoping that this would take care of the problem. February 3rd 2003 i took the car back to the dealership with the same complaint, after one week they compounded and waxed the car, i was told this was FALLOUT and i am responsible if this happens again. Well it is now September 2003 and the rust spots are returning. Can anyone please tell me what is fallout, this is the third white camry i have owned and i have never had any problems with FALLOUT before. I had someone take a look at the car and they believe it is the paint. I would really like this problem solved, i dont believe i should keep having to have my car waxed.

Has anyone else had this problem please let me know.

Fallout???

Mike,

I'm no paint expert but I would think that since this is your third white Camry and this is the only one in which you've experienced the rust problem (what your dealer calls fallout), then I would think there is a problem with the paint or underneath the paint. I would stay on Toyota for repairs and take it higher than the dealership level if you have to. Best of luck.

Re: 2002 Camry With Rust. Anyone Else???

I have a white 2002 camry purchased new in April of 2002. I am experiencing the tiny rust spots also. I haven't tried dealing with the dealership yet. Have you resolved anything since posting this?

Re: 2002 Camry With Rust. Anyone Else???

layzmike,
like bossman, i too am no expert on paint, but i think it's most likely the problem with whatever's under the paint.

now, i assume that the dealer has checked it before and all but just want to ask...are you in an area or drive around in an area with a lot of railraod tracks? the reason i ask is that i have a 2003 silver camry and the place i worked at was relatively close to some railroad tracks and some "metal dust", forgot what it's called, would get into the air and set onto the surface of my car. everyday i came out of the office, there would be a ton of spots on my car that looked like rust. what i did to get rid of it was to rinse my car thoroughly and take a clay bar to the whole surface of the car, washed waxed and polished the car. it lasted a bit because the dust would not bond with the wax.

i dunno..maybe i am off on a tangent since i am assuming that the dealer is right....maybe you can give it a try..

good luck with that though

Re: 2002 Camry With Rust. Anyone Else???

Seem like to be one of my problem on my 99 black camry. But the paint only fall out on the hood. I wonder why it did that, I think I will take it to the dealer to see what happened. The paint on the hood was like melting under the heat of summers. Hope my warranty cover that.

the only thing to really fix rust is have teh part sanded all down, primed repainted, ect. If a little spec of rust is missed during teh process, teh rust will eventually just grow back and make teh paint chip.

Re: 2002 Camry With Rust. Anyone Else???

Wow! Rust on a Camry! I take it that there has never been an accident/touch up on the spots. My Grandmother bought a 1997 Camry (which she has since sold) and the paint on the entire rear bumper was peeling and flaking. The dealer admitted to the car being in an accident on a test drive/on the lot. I found this unbelivable, that the dealer paid some crappy body shop to fix a brand new car. This is just my experience.

These may be specs of something, but they can not be rust specs. Lazymike said they are on his bumper and his spoiler too. These parts are definitely plastic and therefore can not rust.
