Forced Induction on stock M30 motor = bad idea
If you are interested in turbocharging your e23, why not look to purchase an already factory turbocharged one? BMW made a European only e23 in the '80's called 745i that is already turbocharged. Look at this website for more information:
http://745i.scottiesharpe.com/ Also try the e23 forum on roadfly.org. There you will find the most concentrated knowledge of the e23 cars. The folks there will be able to help you out in either modifying your car or you will also be able to find some 745i cars for sale. A lightly modified e23 745i can get upwards of 350-400 HP. Going all out can get you even more. If you are interested in modifying the M30 motor in your e23 and keeping it normally aspirated, check out this website: http://www.metricmechanic.com/ They've got a lot of cool mods that could get you close to 280 normally aspirated horspower. |

i am familiar with the factory turbocharged 745i, but where i live there is not a very good variety of bmw's to choose from. seeing as finding my 735i was tough, the 745 is almost impossible, and i would rather not deal with ebay due to the fact that i like to see the car before i buy it. so i figured turbocharging it myself would be my best bet, but i am not quite sure what needs to be done. thanks a lot.

Hmm,
You can add the m102 or m106 Turbo components to your M30 engine.
If less than 9 psi you can leave the OE ECU and fuel components. If running 9 psi you will need a Cartech RR FPR. OE was 6 psi. The three biggest deals in size are the head, R/H mount, and exhaust. On the BMW Turbo head there are longer and larger stainless steel exhaust mounting studs. Here is my Metric Mechanic prepared Turbo head. Yep it is swirl ported. To get clearancce on the R/H side reguires a longer R/H mount. I sell them for $95 plus $6 shipping. The exhaust must be custom made once the install is set. Later,
