silverado keyless entry

I have a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado that has power locks but no keyless entry. Can anyone advise me on the most practical way to add remote entry to this vehicle? Thanks!

I put a set in my '98 work truck, it was made by Omega. I don't know of a distributor in the states but in Canada it can be obtained from Carrady Imports.
The kit includes two door actuators, all the hardware you need to hook it up to the existing manual door locks and the control module. You'll need to extend the wires a bit to make it work in a full size truck (don't know what they were thinking when they put the kit together). If you get the kit with the 4 wire actuators (as opposed to the two wire setup) you don't even need to put in a switch, activating either door lock manually will lock or unlock the opposite door as well. You can also hook the unit to an alarm or remote start with an auxillary output for keyless entry. It's not a real hard kit to install if you're familliar with the workings of the inside of the door and not that expensive.
They also used to make a kit which just had the keyless part with no acutators to interface with your factory system, don't know if it's still available or not.

The easiest I have found is I.C. Dynamics, they sell their units through J.C.Whitney for $39.99.

The install is pretty straight forward, they just will lock and unlock the doors, no flashing lights or beeping horns.

Depending on your level of expertise, this is the way to go and if you have problems with the install, they have a tech line and are very helpful.

Your 2000 Silverado has all the wires needed behind the left kick panel and is a very easy install.

Good luck with it, keyless is the best!!

P.S. I would stay away from Bulldog, it has more features but is way more complicated. These are the only two brands that I'm familiar with, hope this helps.

Guys, he said that he already has power locks. Also, this is the new style Silverado unless it is a 3/4 ton or heavier truck. Anyway, all your connections will be done at the BCM. The BCM is located behind the drivers side of the dash. The plugs on the BCM face towards the rear of the vehicle. The wires will be in the brown plug. They are white and light blue and need a 12v+ trigger to work.

Personally, I would only use DEI equipment. They seem the best. You can also get this thru the parts department as a VKE or VSC keyless entry unit. Or, you can find anyone that sells Valet, Python, Viper, Sidewinder units. They'll have it too and probably cheaper than the dealer.

Just pull the power window panel loose from the door panel, you can get your lock/unlock wires at the back of the switch (negative polarity) and pull your power off of the power mirror switch (constant positive), drop the unit into the door panel, snap the power window panel back in place, your done! By doing this you can have the unit installed in less than 30 min.

I've done alot of these and have had no problems, with the I.C. Dynamics unit, you will have a total of four wire to attach to the truck.

Easy install!!

I prefer to go to the BCM at the colum because it is much more weather tight. Plus, you can pick up light flash and horn honk right there so you can have lock and unlock confirmation. I only go inside the doors when people do not want those options and it being difficult to grab the lock/unlock wires anywhere else.
