power window problem

My 2000 Xterra driver window has become very loose and I feel that it may have come off track (?) When driving with it partially open, it rattles and needs to be tightened up. Any suggestions as to what this problem is and how to fix it?

You'll probably need to pull the interior panel and tighten the window regulator.

Thank you for your reply. I figured that this was likely the problem. Any suggestions where I may be able to find more information regarding the window regulator? Just want to do this once and do it right. Thanks again!

Probably only the service manual. You might just need to tighten the parts that hold onto the window. I guess I would pull the interior door panel and take a look. (watch out for snapping those plastic pins they use).

I just posted a problem with my window regulators being replaced. Since October 2002 I've had 3 of my winow regs replaced the 2 front ones in October, driver side rear last thursday, they are telling us that a clip is breaking so they have to replace the whole assembly and it is not covered after you're warranty runs out as it is not a recall problem yet, also anyone in warmer conditions is supposedly more at risk, I would check it out. Mine started out with the windows going up or down slowly then rattling and grinding and eventually not working at all.

I thought they all rattled when not rolled up all the way? All of mine rattle and Xterra and Fronteir owners across the land have complained about this.

yeah they rattle, but these rattle all the time, up down it didn't matter and it sounded like glass on sand when you would roll them up or down in any case 3 are fixed and one i'm going to roll up and down until it goes out before my warranty does.

2001 Xterra - All four of my power window motors have had to be replaced. First it was the drivers side and then two weeks later the passenger side went out. The dealer checked the two back windows when they replaced passenger side, they replaced all three at once. Dealer told me that Nissan was supposed to have a recall on all 2001 Xterra power window motors.

isn't that a drag about the window regulators? i hope they do recall them, even though i've had 3 of mine fixed the fix is only good for 12months or 12k miles so that will be out of warrant soon, and i really don't feel like paying to have them fixed.
does anyone know how hard it would be to convert the power windows to a manual window?

rattling windows

Not that Im glad to hear that others have had problems but Im glad to know that im not alone. I am surprised to see this number of complaints about the windows though. Hell, mine have been rattling like crazy since about 8K miles. I mean to the point of being scared to roll them down half way.........Hell they look like they're going to break off....

I think I'll visit the dealer......broken clips might explain some of those first few rattles that I heard.........

take care~!!

Angry NHTSA complaint filing.

I found this on the NHTSA website. We can complain about our troubles. I filed mine today.

Lightbulb

I have a 2001 Xterra and am having the same issues with the power windows. The dealership told me that the weather strip has to be lubricated once a year to keep the regulator from breaking. I questioned as to why it wasn't in any manuals and they stated that it wasn't known until after the manuals were printed. I was told to call 1-800-nissan1 and to open a file that nissan tracks for possible problems that will require a recall. Hopefully if enough people call in and complain, the window will become a recall.

More bad window regs

My windows, rear ones especially, have been gradually getting harder to put back up as well. A buddy of mine at work had the same problem a few months back with his driver window, which eventually got stuck down. Right now his X is in getting the other 3 window regs replaced.

How can Nissan not turn this into a recall issue with so many having the same problem? This is clearly faulty/poor manufactuing on their part. Anyone who has not already done so, PLEASE use the above number to report your problem to Nissan.

Good news, they are finally doing something about it:
Technical Bulletin (TSB) #NTB03-118
Campaign #PU306 & PU307

Notices should be going out this week.
