Unhappy 2003 Tahoe WONT RUN.

My parents have a 2003 Tahoe with 22k miles on it. Lately it has been stalling, not bad but every once in a while when you excellerate too fast. But last night was by far the worst. A 30 min drive home took an Hour and 45 min. The car stalled at least 15 times. What happens is that the car will start and then about 5 min later it will bog out and basically just kill itself while going. NO ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT comes on either. Which is strange cause i would think it would throw a code. I tried keeping it in second gear and holding at about 3 grand but it still died. And it would take about 30 seconds of driving at about 1500 rpms then it would die. Oh yeah its the 5.3 V8. I believe it is almost definately lack of air, or lack of fuel. After the engine would stall it would take about 2-3 minutes of turning the key and pumping the gas for it to start again. I looked at the air filter, it was fine. I listened when i turned the key to On and the fuel pump was working cause you can hear it pump fuel up into the fuel rail. IM stumped and my dad is contemplating selling it and buyin a ford. If anybody could help me in identifying this problem, it would be extremely helpful.

Re: 2003 Tahoe WONT RUN.

Change your fuel filter. They should be changed yearly. Then you may need to have your fuel injectors seviced.

Re: 2003 Tahoe WONT RUN.

An '03 with 22k. Sounds like a warranty thing? Just because the "check engine light" doesn't come on doesn't mean that a code is not locked into the control module. Take it to the dealer or someone you trust that has the right diagnostic tools. Good Luck....Steve

PS: It really sounds like a fuel problem, so change the filter. It should be inside the frame rail under the drivers side. Loosen the fittings carefully as there may be residual fuel pressure present!! I didn't change my filter on the '99 Sub until 60k. But you never know what comes out of gas station tanks??

My 2002 Tahoe had a chip problem with less than 100 miles on it. Yes, 100 miles. Regardless of if you floored it, the speed reduced to 15 miles per hour. I don't believe the service engine light came on either. I took it in and they replaced the chip in 15 minutes. Perhaps you just have a faulty chip onboard. Good luck with it
