350 engines

Can an earlier model 350 engine be used in a 1990 C1500 pickup with TBI and 5-speed transmission? Would the TBI intake manifold, distributor, etc. work on earlier model engines? Also will the '90 model 5-speed bolt up?

yes, it will work fine.....i'm not sure but i think you will need to use your newer heads for the intake to bolt up...not sure on that one. everything else, including your tranny, will interchange no problem. just remember to tell the parts guy you need the older rear main seal, it was changed when they changed block design.

how much earlier?

86 and up you are ok, pre 85 and the center 4 bolts of the intake wont line up without minor machine shop work...and there might be an issue with knock sensor location and you will have to block off the fuel pump perhaps, however, you will have to use the proper flexplate/flywheel as the 86-up motor with the 1 piece crank seal has a different bolt circle pattern than the previous motors. oh and i forgot, make sure the older motor has an oil pressure tap on the filter boss - the tbi h an k motors used this at times
