Power steering on a could day.
I'm really upset with my trailblazer at the moment. I start mine 2003 trailblazer on a could morning and get a screaming noise coming from my power steering pump, and my neighbor with his old car...it starts fine no noise or nothing. It was could say -20 -25 but why would my new 2003 trailblazer scream and his old car start fine. I tell you my 2000 blazer never did this too me. I really regret not getting the Jeep Cherokee I was comparing the trailblazer with.
Help please!! |

Re: Power steering on a could day.
the pump and bearings in your car are new, and have closer tolerances than your neighbors older car. And at -25 degrees the two pumping surfaces may be dissimilar metals that have contracted at different rates. the neighbors pump is worn causing larger gaps in the pump. There by allowing room for more fluid to flow between the moving parts.. The oil for your pump is probably like jelly at that temp too where as your neighbors is still flowing due to it being a less viscous fluid. (tranny fluid)

Re: Power steering on a could day.
Burgy , having the same trouble with my 03 TB LS. Nothern Vermont is also delivering cold weather that is making mine scream in the cold. The dealer told me that Chevy has developed better fluid for the system to help it with the cold, Just got it done, I will tell you how it goes.

Re: Power steering on a could day.
Yes, GM has come out with a P/S fluid for colder climates, and we have flushed a few power steering systems out and replaced it with the new fluid. Seems to help so far.
