Aftermarket head unit with factory CD changer?
I've seen some posts where owners have successfully installed an aftermarket CD changer to be used with the OEM (Alpine or Pioneer) factory head unit. In my case, I'd like to keep the factory CD changer, but install a new, aftermarket CD head unit. I have a 95 325is and according to what I've read, there is no adapter available to do this for the 95+ year models.
Has anyone been able to do this? |

You can only go with OEM head ===> aftermarket CD Changer, but you can't hook up an aftermarket headunit to the factory CD Changer there are no adapters for that period.

What is the year/model of your car. If it's an E36 then you most likely will have to go with a 6-disc Alpine. Plus you will need and adaptor. Figure about $250 + $60 about $350 installed, or you could go with those universal ones but I wouldn't if I had the choice.

Re: Aftermarket head unit with factory CD changer?
I have a 92 325is. The changer stopped working months ago and I took it out. I haven't used it for so long I don't remember if it is a 5 or 6 disc.
I know I can have it sent in to be fixed, but that costs about $150. I would rather just replace it, but yikes, $350 is expensive. I know I could just put a dash mount cd player for a good price, but I don't want it to look cheesy not matching. I have other priorities right now with my car... like brakes today! What do you know about the universal ones? |
