Question Port and Polish?

I was thinking of going ahead and porting and polishing my d16y8 from 1.6L to 1.8. I have the general idea of what it is. Could someone please explain the details? Also would I need to sleeve the walls? New pistons and rods right? What type of gains would I get off of this? Also where could I find the measurements? I have two uncles that each own machine shops and was going to get them to do it. I was planning on going turbo after this and getting a turbo cam. Good stuff? Thanks in advance!

Re: Port and Polish?

porting and polishing will NOT increase your displacement!!!! port and polish is where they polish and smooth out your intoke and exhaust paths, i think, correct me if i'm wrong please, but doesn't it just clean out the airflow paths?

Re: Port and Polish?

ding ding ding we have a winner
It just makes the air flow a little better into the engine. Waste of a lot of money for a little 4 banger if you ask me, since gains won't even be double digits. Boring the cylinder walls wider or installing a stroker kit will increase the displacement of the engine, but I've never seen a little 1.6 sohc get a bump in displacement like that.. Boring it out would make the cylinder walls thinner and less reliable, and not worth it for the minimal torque gains. Just turbo the 1.6, you'll get around 170hp to the wheels and a nice amount of torque with just the stock kit running 6psi.

for the amount of money to get a sohc to 200hp you could swap and have the same or more hp anyways.

It's true, it might just be cheaper and easier just to swap a larger engine into your car, but if you really want to keep your D-Series engine, turbocharge it

well, you could get a lot of hp out of porting and polishing a 4cylinder. it all depends on the amount of air entering your engine.
