1958 Impala

I was always under the impression that the "58" Impala only came in a two door hardtop or a convertible. Somebody who owns an Impala told me the also made a two door bel-air hardtop. please verify

Re: 1958 Impala

For 1958, the Impala was just a trim level on the Bel Air. Thus, it might have been available in any body style that the Bel Aire was available in. Maybe there were two door post-coupe Impalas. Never heard of one though.

Here are sime 1958 Impala pictures. These are both two door Bel Aire Impalas. http://www.classicroad.com/58impala/

There is a coupe and a sport coupe, although I think the only differnence is the trim package, and possibly the suspension.

This is just some pics, and maybe a little info about the Impala.

The 58 impala was alot more than a trim package. The roof is lower and shorter to give the rear deck a longer and sportier look, The deck lid is longer and and quarterpanel and tail light panels are very differant also. The rear seat area is smaller due to the roof being moved forward.

Re: 1958 Impala

I still don't believe there was a "Bel Aire Impala". I think the car that chevrolet built in 1958 was just an Impala and it came as a two door hardtop or convertible, not a sedan not a two door post. If anyone else can argue this point please send pictures.

The impala was hardtop and convertible only. but they did build bel-air and del-ray hardtops as well.

Re: 1958 Impala

I have owned a bel-air 2 dr hardtop. they are kinda bulky looking. the roof line is not very attractive. the bel-air hardtop was going to be their top of the line car in 58. they got a peek at chrysler before they went into production and changed the roof line and tail treatment to give it a longer sleeker look . you occasionally see a bel-air 2dr hardtop on e-bay for sale.i will dig around and try to find you a pic or two of a bel-air hardtop. there is an extremely rare 4 dr hdtp on e-bay this week. and there is Very rough 4 dr hdtp in a friends salvage yard close to me. I have passed up a few 2 dr hdtp bel-airs in the past
