Ok guys and gals I got a real problem here. i am the "proud" owner of 1 1987 4dr chevy cavalier. This car is equipped with a 2.0 Lt 4Cyl that up until recently ran just fine. I was driving it one day and it was fine. I arrived at my friends house and shut it off.
When I tried to leave it suddenly decided to have NO power. Any time I tried to give it more than an ounce on the gas pedal it would bog out the engine to almost a dead stop. I then noticed that I had no coolant. I figured it was the head gasket due to a stain right below it that looked like coolant. I went ahead and replaced it and also had the valve seals replaced and the head checked for cracks. Everything looked great when I put it back together, but it still runs like crap. No power in drive and itll stall if you try to give it more gas. The odd thing tho is that it seems to start and idle perfectly. if anybody here has any clue that might help me even a little bit then please post it up yesterday!!! Thanks in advance for the help!

i had the EXACT same problem with my old 89 cavalier. on mine it actually wasnt the head gasket, it was a gasket between the themostat housing and the block. you'll see what i mean if you look at the housing. as for the bogging, i never fixed it, just warmed it up before i took it out. my friend and i think it was the throtle body, or possibly in your case the carb.

Re: HELP!!!! Seriously I need it!
Yeah, I'm going to be buying a 90 cavalier with a similar problem. He only wants 50 bucks for the car, so I'll take a swing at fixing it. What's this thermostat housing? I haven't even looked at the car yet. He's had some problems with the coolant as well. Coincidence? I dunno. well lemme know some more about that thermostat housing on the block.

Sounds to me like your fuel injector took a crap. the 2.0L was nitorious for bad fuel injectors. the 90 cavilier your thinking of purchaseing also may need a Fuel injector.. .. or multiple depending on what motor is in it. the injector for your 2.0 is pretty cheap and easy to replace if you find one in the junkyard, chances are its better then the one in your car. give it a shot see what happens.

I have an 88 Z24 that had a similar problem. Did you check your codes? Mine was code 15, which is a coolant temp sensor. It makes the car flood itself out. But I do suggest checking your codes, if you haven't already.
