I'm just wondering

I'm just wondering what you think is more important, your heart or your lungs?

The heart is more important by far. Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe that you can live with only one lung....but you would be restricted to a wheel chair and an oxygen tank do to lack of oxygen for any type of physical work.

Don't think so, CG. When climbing to extreme altitudes (like the Himalayas), most climbers are breathing on the equivalent of one lung and there's a fair amount of exertion involved in climbing.

My Grandpa had Emphysema for about 20 years and was successfully walking/talking etc whilst breathing with a piece of one lung around 8cm on diameter.

Re: I'm just wondering

Frankly, it's a bit like asking what is more important on a car - the engine or the drivetrain.

Clearly, they have to be functioning for you to survive and although I know of professional tennis player who had one lung - you really need both to be working well.

Fitness-wise, your ability to convert air into oxygen in your bloodstream is very important particularly for cardio and your heart's ability to transport the blood around is pretty paramount too.

In a literary sense, your heart would be more important as it the literary source of the emotion of love as the literary function of the lungs is provide the breath of life and to deliver communication...
