Need help with my Windstar in Switzerland!
I recently moved to Switzerland and brought my 2000 Ford Windstar with me. To register it, it had to go through a rigorous safety check with their equivalent of the DMV. The Windstar did not pass in three areas which I am hoping that members out there can help me out.
1. The headlights are aimed too high. I need someone to give me instructions on how to properly align the leadlights. 2. The yellow signal lights at the side of the headlights stay on while the headlights are on. Of course this is normal but not acceptable to the Swiss authorities. Is there something that I can do so that the yellow turn signals do not turn on when the headlights are on? Of course I do not want to disable them completely. 3. There is a "stamp" missing on the engine. Apparently this stamp gives the information of the engine and is required to be displayed on the engine by means of this stamp. Does anyone know what they could be asking for? I recognize that for this I may have to visit a Ford dealership in Geneva but I was hoping to avoid that since everything is so expensive out her. I am unable to register my vehicle until these three problems are taken care of and I have until the end of January to do so. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciate. Thanks! #1 Headlights. when on a level surface there is a bubble level built into the headlight on top in the middle. there is a bolt to one side of the light looks long and not screwed in all the way. turn this screw until the bubble is in the middle of the tube. this is the proper alignment for the lamp. If the authorities want it different then a local ford dealer will know what it should be set to. But I would think that would impair your vision of the road at night...since they would be then too low.....
2. If you are electrically challenged take it to a dealer. If not then this is a Dual element bulb. meaning the parking light stays on and the turn signal turns on the other element. go to an electrical shop (radio shack)and pick up a pack of BULLET CONNECTORS, male and female you will need 4 male and 4 female....this includes extras.....using a meter find which wire is 12VDC when the parking lights are on clip it and install the bullet connector. a male on the bulb side and female on the harness side. this way should you ever need to power the parking lights simply connect the connector and you're in business. I would add, wrap the connectoe with a bit of electrical tape to protect them from the weather and shorting. but if you use the insulated type this shouldn't be a problem. 3. The stamp missing is not actually missing, it was never put on there. US engines don't comply to the coding of european codes. So you're only option is to have a dealer generate a code that is equivelent or get a variance from the authorities. Your vehicle is what we cal in the US a gray market car being manufactured in another country. and shipped here without being prepped for entrance into the country. It is going to take a bit of work but work with the dealer. You might also call someone who imports cars and ask them about the certifications needed. Hope this helps |
