Trunk won't close

Hello,

I have a 2002 Sunfire and when I shut the trunk it won't stay closed.
I believe it has something to do with the latch. Can anyone HELP!!
Thank you Diana

Well I have never had a problem with my trunk not closing. It might be that your latch fliped the other way. If you have key less entry then just hit the trunk button and see if it will pop the latch back. If not then on the lower side (i.e. the latch on the rear of the car) see if it is closed or in the locked position. You might need a screw driver to pop it back in place. Other than that I wouldn't know of anything else to do.

I had the same problem with my sunfire when I bought it . What I had to do was to adjust my trunk latch down so I could get it to close.

It was simple. On the latch, there are two bolts, loosen them both and drop the entire mechanism down about a mm at a time until the trunk closes the way you would like.

sunfireguy, yes I agree. The entire back end on my sunfire was crushed by a forklift. Had to replace EVERYTHING

I have a 99 sunfire and I had the same problem when I bought it. After a long wait and many returns to the dealer...they finaly got it right. They replaced the entire cable and the latch on the trunk.
