Should I buy a H1...please respond

Hello everyone. I am interested in purchasing a H1, 1999 year. I have heard so many pros and cons. The cons of course concern me the most. Is it true H1 has a history of many many shop hours due to maintenance problems? I would be very interested to hear from those who can tell me their overall opinion of owning an H1. This is a HUGE step and expense that I don't want to regret later. Any and all help is appreciated. Also, anyone know of a good company to purchase an extended warranty. Many of them don't seem to offer warranties on H1's. Thanks so much!!
Cris

Talking Bought It...WOO HOOO

Cesar,

Thank you so much for your reply. My only hesitation about purchasing the H1 was reports of mechanical problems and the expense to repair them. I did however take the plunge and purchase the H1. I do have remaining warranty, but am looking at purchasing an extended warranty on top of it. Who is carrying your extended warranty, and if you don't mind me asking, what was the charge? The dealership I went through told me it was $5,600.00 for the extended warranty. It seemed pretty high to me so I wanted to do some investingating before I made the purchase. If in fact that is the cost, then I will return to the dealer to purchase the warranty.

I do feel that I made a great purchase. I love my H1, love to drive it and still am in shock I actually own my dream vehicle. The only thing now is I would like to paint it white as they didn't have that color available at the time. I am told though, white is not a good color for our winter snows here in Alaska.

Thank you again for your reply.

Cool choice. I would have picked the H-1 also.
Happy trails,

Tex, Thanks for the input. It is my opinion the H1 IS the one and only real Hummer. I am very pleased with my choice. Can't help but to notice your user name...are you from Texas? I am originally from the great state and have only been gone now for 4 years. I often miss it! Thanks again for the post and support on my purchase. Cris

You're one lucky dude. I also dream of an H-1, but I am searching for an ex-military Hummer.
My wife has an '02 Tahoe, and I can't bring myself to believe that an H-2 would really satisfy my hunger. I like the looks (and commercials) of the H-2, and it has the same engine as my Silverado Crew H-D, but one Tahoe in the family is enough. At least w/a used green machine, I wouldn't have to worry about getting any small scrapes and scratches after a day's worth of goofing around. The H-1 looks mean and brutal and are deffinately off-road worthy. You can't go wrong w/one of those.
There are guys here in town that think their Z-71s and Ford Power-Jokes are God's gift to mudders. I have a hard enough time getting in and out of parking spots in the city, much less navigating trails off road.
My 4X4 will have to be the best.
So what took you so far North? Do you miss the hot summers and long autums (we really don't have winter weather down here)? I do live in TX, just South of San Antonio.
You want to paint it, what color is it now? Post an address for some pictures, I'd like to see it.
Be cool, man.

Hey Tex,
Actually...its Dudette, as opposed to Dude. Don't worry about it though as it seems to be a common deal. Most everyone that sees my H1 automatically start talking to my husband. He simply says "its not mine, its hers". He has his dream truck 3/4 ton dogde ram diesel 4X4. Its a pretty tough truck, but no where near the off roading power of my H1. I've wanted one for many many years and finally had my chance. The H2 wasn't even an option nor desire as I wasn't looking for the name Hummer...only an H1 would do. It is silver in color. My choice would have been white or black. I see a paint job in the future. WOW...you are from south of San Antonio. I grew up in Pleasanton/Jourdanton area and then moved to San Antonio. When I married my hubby 4 years ago he was a military man. He has since retired and Alaska was where he wanted to put down our roots. The fishing and hunting are awesome and the off-roading is a dream. It does get damn cold in the winter, which is when I miss the warm skies of Texas. So, where from south of SA are you from? Do you get to do much off-roading? I was going to try and upload a photo with me and my prize ride, but haven't figured it out just yet. I'll see if I can get it to work.
Take care,
Cris

Sorry about the dude thing, I shoulda looked closer at how you spell your name. You are one of the elite few-----a chich with an H-1. What could be cooler than that! My congrats.
I agree that the Dodge/Cummins is the ultimate Truck. I had an 87 reg.cab/long bed with the diesel/4X4/towing package. I could have ordered a snow-plow suspension option but figured it would be useless to me. I had to modify it too. I ran 4"pipe from the resonator all the way out, turned up the injection pump and raised the pressure of the waste gate. I sure miss the power. I sold it 2yr. ago and bought a new Chevy HD. The Chevy rides stiff but not rough like the Dodge, it has a plushy interior, and I don't miss the noise one bit.
Pleasanton is close to here, take hwy181 to hwy97 and head West. We bought our dog from a lady in Jourdanton, and I run the jet-ski at Calavares lake. I live in Poth, we were almost neighbors (it is a small world).
I know some people that took a cruise to Alaska and just raved on how beautiful it all was. Sounds like a nice place.
Nice chattin w/you, reply soon and send some pics.

Congratulations!! You are right, this truck is a dream!!!!
I bought my extended warranty at the dealer (Classic Hummers, in Texas) and I payed around $1600 for 7 years.

Actually my Hummer is white, I think it looks great in this color, but you are right, this color is too cold for winters and probably other drivers would have problems to see you on the road because of the snow.

If you want to see my H1 you can see it here: http://ataskewheels.com/modules.php?...rum=6&start=10

hope you like it!!

Cesar Guzman

P.S. Wow!! I just noticed you are a woman!! you are the first woman I know that owns a Hummer!!!! many girls that I know, prefer jeeps, trackers and those kind of cars. You really did a great choice!!! Again Congratulations!! you own a great SUV!!!

Tex,
OMG....I know exactly where Poth is...and yes it is a small world. I still have not figured out yet how to get the damn pics uploaded in the message. Not the brightest sometimes...and no I'm not blonde. I have a website for my business where I will upload the pic. I am self employed, so the SUV write off and the diesel clean air write off will work well for me. Website www.kelstaralaska.com

My family has been from all around your area, with relatives still there. You will find my email addy on my website, drop me a line sometime!

Cris

Nice one Cesar.
I've never seen one with TSLs (they look like Super Swampers). Looks pretty hard-core with the aggressive tires. ------Clean indeed!!!!!!!!

Cesar,
WOW...nice Hummer. White is definately the color choice. Makes me want to stick to the white even if it does blend in with the snow. I'll have to figure out how to make sure I'm seen.

I can't believe you got an extended warranty for $1600...they quoted me $5600. I kinda figured they were trying to rip me off. Is yours a bumper to bumper? Did you buy it straight from Hummer or a warranty dealer? Let me know if you have a name and contact number...I would like to purchase the warranty without getting ripped off.

Nice Hummer man....enjoy the ride...the one and only!!!

The advantages of having write offs really helps, the less you pay in taxes the better.
I have my own repair shop, so that's why I sold the Dodge and opted for the Chevy. Either buy vehicles and claim all that you can, or give it to Uncle Sam. I write off my interest, fuel, insurance, and up keep. I know what you mean.-----If I could use a Hummer for the business that would really help as a depreciation. A Hummer for a shop truck, yeah right.
go to www.bartonekdragracing.com click on "cool rides" to the left of the opening page and go to Gene Mosmeyer's blown Biscayne. I have a friend that posted my car on his site. It's some cars that I have put together and my Toyota powered jet ski. My current project is a 1968 Camaro---V-12 engine and Corvette suspension---.
After the Camaro is done, a Hummer will be in the plans. It will be a cool addition to my collection (it will go perfect with my '88 Vette).
I'll scope out your address and send you a couple pics of my projects.
See ya,
---TEX---

'68 Camaro's are awesome...always been one of my favorites. I'm also quite fond of the 65 chevy stepside p/u, always wanted one...oh and add the ford shelby to that list. The list could go on and on. I spent many days at car shows, drooling over some of the best. They don't make them like they used to. Not until the H1 came along
Take care and we'll chat soon!

I´m not pretty sure about the terms of the warranty because my brother who is in Texas bought the H1 and also the warranty (by the way, I live in Mexico and here is no Hummer dealers that´s why I asked my brother to buy it himself. I just went to the U.S. and then I drove it all the way down to my town)

Like I said before, I´m not pretty sure about the terms, but you can try here where my brother bought it

wish you the best!
