? about 5 speed transmission swap to an automatic

hi, i got an 89 toyota supra turbo with an automatic
i have heard that you can swap in a N/A 5 speed transmission from the
same years into a turbo model. is this true? i heard u can't but also
that u can. if so, will the n/a 5 speed transmission be as good as
a turbo 5 speed transmission because a friend of mine has an 87 supra
n/a who is going to junk it. thank you for listening.

Re: ? about 5 speed transmission swap to an automatic

Didn't I just answer this a few weeks ago, anyway yes. All MK3 transmissions will bolt up (jz/g series will need the proper bellhousing), there's the R-154 (turbo 5-speed), W-58 (n/a 5-speed), A340 (auto trans). Of coarse the R-154 is the strongest of them all, an n/a 5-speed is only going to hold about 350-375 daily before you start having problems, plus it gets hard to find a n/a clutch to hold that anyway. So now that you know what you need to get for the swap from the last post, you can use the W-58 but I'd only use it if you don't plan on upgrading much.
