Question jdm engine codes

I have a really interesting question regarding jdm b-series engines. Dont know if its a stupid question or not but I was wondering that if you buy a civic type r engine (jdm b16b) why would it say "b16" on the block rather than some japanese writing. If its from japan it shouldnt have american writing on it. Anyone know about that?

Re: jdm engine codes

I assume english being the #1 universale language, and easily recognizable they decided to go ahead with English letters. But if you look around on the engines, many parts and engravings will be in Japanese.
