looking at a 90 wrangler

ok heres the deal, a friend of mine has a 1990 wrangler for sale and im thinking about buying it. its got a 6 cyl engine, 4wd, dealer installed brush guard, flares, tube steps, and spiral AR wheels. it runs but it doesn't start without a shot of starting fluid. they cold air pipe for the air intake has oil in it and its got some oil in the air filter housing i'm thinking something with the PCV system????

ive got a couple questions.
1. there are two hoses going up the passenger side of the engine they're about 1/2inch and have a "T" valve in them that has what looks like a vac hose going into it. one of these fittings is melted so the hose is just hooked straight though? what do these do and is it a problem?

2. how hard is it to rebuild the carb on these and how much? or would buying a rebuilt carb be cheaper?

3. how cheap can i get a new soft part for a driver side half door, the zipper for the window is shot

4. what years have can i use parts from? example eclipses, talons and lasers 90-94 most engine parts are the same

links to FAQ style sites for 1990 jeeps would be helpful too

the 90

yeah, well i own a 90 jeep wrangler, it's a four banger, but i happen to know the 258 very well. you're going to have to fix that vac hose, it's part of your oil problem. after that check out the pvc hard line after the hose, it's prolly partially plugged, building uo pressure in the case, blosing out out yout case air in hose. and buy a new carb, you'll enjoy the reliability and new power. and for a 258, you can use any parts off any other 258, because yu're still in carbutators, go bask all the way till 80 in the cjs for parts. have fun

Re: the 90

put a mc2100 or autolite ford 2100 series carb on that 4.2-it elimintaes most of teh vacuum lines-also do an hei swap to bypass the computer controlled ignition-this will solve 90% of your 4.2 problems
