Missing in Gear only???
Hello, I own a 1998 Rodeo with the 4cyl 2.2. The vehicle is 2wd and has about 95000 miles on it I bought it with 56000miles on it. I have not replaced the spark plugs (mainly cause I haven’t really found them) I have replaced both Oxygen Sensors within the last year. The check engine light has gone off and on at random for the last two years, I have grown to ignore it.
Within the last week a real problem has arose. The Rodeo will idle fine and I can even rev up the engine with no problems in neutral. When I put it in gear and take off, it bucks and feels like it might be missing but this only happens between 1000 and 2000 rpm's ........roughly. If I creep through the gears very slowly it runs fine. Its just when I put it in gear and push the gas peddle more than 15% down it gives me these problems and. I have been told it might be the idle air flow valve or something and I plan on changing the spark. I would also take any advice or tips on the spark plug changing. The last problem I have is not a huge deal just annoying. On the tailgate of the Rodeo the little cylinder locking mechanism broke on me and fell into the inside of the door. So now I have no way of getting through this door because I can’t pop open the window. I have looked for fasteners and screws on the inside to remove the inside panel with no luck. I am open to any ideas here, preferably the least destructive. Well if you made it this far thanks for at least reading. Ryan |

Re: Missing in Gear only???
i'm not an expert but i've had hessitation problems w/ my vehicle and your problem may just be some sort of ignition issue, usuall it can be cleared up by changing spark plugs and wires and maybe changing the cap and rotor of distributor..
