92, I4, Sulfur smell when stressed a bit.

I figured I might as well ask about this recent problem I've been having. Occasionally, I am a bit heavy on the peddle when merging onto the highway, and I will get this odor in the car for a little while afterwards. It smells like I'm riding with a gassy person. Could this be an exhaust leak? Here is some other info that might be related:

During the past year, I have noticed that my engine is louder. It's not sounding like a motorcycle yet... It just sounds more like I am driving the new Celica GTS (I wish) than a Camry. My mechanic did a quick look over my exhaust system and noticed nothing obvious (except there is some rust in the joints). The muffler is stainless steal, it's original, but doesn't look rusted yet.

I just want to make sure that that it isn't something burning up. I really want this car to last another year so I can save up for a house down payment. Blowing something expensive like a tranny would be a problem.

That sulfur smell is actually going fom the gas you are using, and there is nothing to worry about.

What is happening is gas companies ae adding new additives to help car burn cleaner and more effecient. Sometimes when mixed with gas that has not been treated with the new additives and even when mixed with the new additive gas, your gonna get that sulfur smell. It really nothing to wory about.

The sulfer smell could be coming from your catalitic converter.

You shouldn't be able to smell that when you are driving. People driving behind me in a parking lot when I first start my car have told me about that same sulfur smell. You must have a small leak somewhere since you can smell it and have noticed an increase in the sound of your exhaust. Make sure you can stay awake on long drives!!
