1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
New thread because I couldn't be bothered with the old one, so I deleted it.
New progress with be in here because this week I have found myself doing alot to this model, just last night and today I smoothed the putty on the front piece, and smoothed the bodywork also. Today I made the speaker enclosure in the boot, I still need to make the styrene sheet for the top of the enclosure and putty all the sheets joints, the whole boot will be covered in red velvet. Tonight I will continue fixing the body, sanding and puttying etc. I'll get pictures tomorrow, for now I have the boot install progress photos, the batteries will be 'hidden' so I can save them for a kit I don't do a enclosure in. I'm going to have a go at scratchbuilding some amps tonight for the subs. Tell me what you think of the proposed install, I'll be wiring the hydro pumps aswell as the engine. I scratchbuilt the steering column as I lost the kits one. I still need the passenger side rear light lens if anyone can help me with that. thanks for looking, check back sometime soon!! ![]() |

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
Nope, never finished it. Worked a bit on the bodywork last night, it's a mock up stance too, I'm thinking of adjustable rear suspension so I can lift the ass and let it sit on back bumper. The front piece and bootlid are actually really smooth, I doubt they will need much work done now, the front needs touching up though. More photos:

Re: Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
Looks great! Think the adjustable suspension would be awesome. I've seen a candy lime green 62 impala convertible on 13'' daytons with the front set at stock hieght and the rear bumper on the ground. Talk about a fine ride.

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
Thanks man, yeah I would measure these out to be 15" reverse wires, they are Pegasus items from Antonio. One of the whitewalls is looking pretty bad, but I'm not going to replace it. Might be pics tomorrow but not the day after that, I'm probably going to get quite wasted tomorrow night (new years parties).
Closest ride we have to a 62 in the club is a 61 bel air, I don't know if it is up on our website yet though, its got 2 pro hopper pumps, white red interior chrome 13" reverse knockoffs. |

Re: Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
That exhaust wont work too well if your doing the adjustable suspension. Try to lift the back of the car, and craaaaacccckkkkkk! there goes your exit pipes.

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
I'm aware that the Hydros would wreck the exhaust pipes if you jacked the back up but it's only a model and I couldn't be stuffed to customise the exhaust, I got too much crap I still have to do in the boot.

Re: Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
well that's cool, you coulda always made some smooth 90* bends with some styrene rod, from the muffler backs out to the sides of the car with side dumps.

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
Yeah I was thinking of all the different exhaust things but this is all I could be bothered to do, I glued the diff in aswell, I got bored last night because the TV in my room stopped working, well it is 35 years old.
The kit is the original Monogram 1986 Monte Carlo SS coupe, it's ahrd to get now and the only new released one is the shitty Aeroback. |

Re: Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
it's not shitty. I built it in dark red. but gave it to a relative, because the shitty 305 under the hood, with all the muscle cars I had at the time killed me to see it there. but hey, that's my opinion nad yours is yours. sucks about your tv. btw, where did those exhaust pipes come from, you made them? if so how?

AMT 1955 Ford F150 Flipnose. Yeah it does really suck about the TV, I just realised that tomorrow the music video programs are on all night, damn....
At least I still got my stereo and bean bag.... |

Re: 1986 Monte Carlo Lowrider Progress
I don't know about the pipes. They are original, and look pretty good.
I'm liking the subs, and the whole layout of the trunk. Good work.
