Hello everyone! I'm somewhat new to the Accord community, so forgive me for any stupid statements. Anyways, I just put a new filter and intake in my 94 Accord EX m/t and everything seems to be working alright, but there are one or two valves that I disconnected from the OEM air hose. Is that gonna be any trouble? Also I was wondering if anyone would happen to have a instrument cluster for a 94 Accord by any chance? I need a new fuel gauge. Also, for some reason when I run about 2000 RPM's there is a vibrating noise coming from what sounds like the cat converter, could it be the heat shield vibrating? If so, then I need a new one. One last question: Do those mod chips that affect fuel consumption really increase the horsepower? (what will it do to my engine?)
Thanks, AJ |

Re: Intakes and parts
hella questions. well your intake system should have holes for those 2 extra lines. the lines are for your venting on your valve cover which is needed for your pcv and the other is a sensor.
you do need them, if u dont have them then i bet u got a ebay intake....just drill some holes and get some rubber gormets and then stick them in there...reletivley in the place it was before. vibrating noise can be heat sheild....does it happen if u rev in idle? if it does go under the car while ur friend is revvin to locate the problem. mod chips work but it depends what kind you get...really if i get a mod chip i might as well get a reprogrammable ecu chip. it is better for overall performance and precise crap, either than some other ones which dont do too much....but if ur talking about the one that gives u 20hp..thats BS.

Re: Intakes and parts
Hey thanks a lot for the advice!!!! That'll help a lot! It does vibrate in neutral as well. I'm gonna go drill some holes in that intake. Hey, what kind of ecu chip would you recommend? How much do they usually run? And what does that sensor do? I see that it runs to the opposite side of the car, near the power steering fill. I better hook that back up.

Re: Intakes and parts
i think you are fine with your ecu chip as of now. usually they run from 100 to over 800 for a reprogramable and link up to your computer.
that sensor just senses the air comming in, the other one is a hose from ur valve cover...your car wont throw a code cuase really its nothing much, but it will run differntly.. dude u got mail. check ur PM. drill holes, be cautious..dont drill too big, start small and get bigger...then get rubber garmets found at lowes or radio shack and then put em in there...or just find a way to seal it kinda.

Re: Intakes and parts
Yeah, I'll give it a shot. My guess is that extra valve goes to some type of air sensor, perhaps lets one know when they need to change their filter? With the new filter I noticed that I get a LOT more sound at around 3000 RPM's from what sounds like under the hood. I'm not sure. I'll check it out. Ok, I'm gonna put that chip in and see what happens. Hopefully it doesn't destroy my engine. I also heard that when you install a new intake, some people unplug the negative terminal to the battery for five minutes so that the car "learns" the new intake. Is that true?

Re: Intakes and parts
well that sensor is some sensor, i forgot exactly what it doesn. the new air filter since its a open cone allows more air in, and the pipe design with less curves and bends will make the intake sound louder. also at full throttle it would sound like a man! haha...its normal.
when people disconnect the neg terminal its resetting the ecu to tell the car that there is new things installed and to reprogram itself to the new specs..... but i dont know why they take off the negitive wire, i take off both cause im not sure which one, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then start the car and let it idle for 10 minutes, then drive normal for about 25 miles...make sure the car is warm before you start though.... its kinda a myth that the ecu has to learn, but might as well do it anyway...since u have a little more air flow...the computer cant compensate as quickly vs just taking off the terminal to the battery. what chip are u thinking about getting....i think just the intake is coo...save the money and buy a header for your car. mmmmmMm

Re: Intakes and parts
Yeah you're right, the intake seems a lot more louder. Kinda good, kinda bad but I need a new exhaust to make it even better. Also, I'll give the "unplug" the battery terminals a shot, see what happens. Also, how will a new header be beneficial for my accord? I'm just trying to weigh the options out. I need a new spoiler, body kit, hood, rims, etc... Just trying to figure out how I can get the best performance with the least amount of cash. (school's kickin my ass). Thanks man!
