93 Plymouth Yoyager transmission problem

Several different problems with the transmission. Engine running in Park
there is a metallic grinding noise. Gets alittle louder and rpms associated with the noise pick up as you accelerate. Never goes away. Van will lose power on a quick acceleration as it passes throught the gears and is very bad on inclines. Have had the tranny not shift into drive or reverse, also at a stop with the brake on, it will start to jerk until you place it in neutral. Just progressively getting worse. Anything to check prior to replacing the transmission? I do have a leak in a hose to replace.

I would guess you know it's toast!!! the "lock" feeling is probably
caused by a "welded" clutch pack,,,tends to happen when trans is
run low on fluid regulary,,,,this causes a tie-up when it shifts because
the clutch can't release because it's welded together,,,no movement can be caused by a plugged filter from all the clutch fiber in the oil.
