mk2 gas gauge does not work. Plese help!

I just bought a 93 mr2 turbo and when I was driving it, it died. it sounded like it needed gas, but the gauge said half full. so i put gas in it anyway, and it ran (I drve it home) fine. Anyway the gauge does not move and is stuck at half a tank. It does not move at all even when the car is turned off and back on. any idea if it is the gauge or the sensor that is broken. That would be a ton of help.
