you insurance is probably gunna be quite spendy if you get the GST since you are 16, the difference is GS has no turbo and the GST has a turbo. the insurance on the GS will probably be a little over half of what the GST would cost!

Re: anyone with a 97-99 GST i have question

I suggest putting the car in a parents name and your name. that way you can go under their insurance policy.

check www.progressive.com
and www.geico.com

For an "idea" of rates are going to cost.
remember that if the car is baught under some type of loan, 99% of the time you will need to have full coverage on the car.

Re: anyone with a 97-99 GST i have question

I am also 16 and I own a 95 GST. I used to have a 95 GS and EclipseRST is right my insurance is double now. I currently have to speeding tickets on my policy. One 47 in a 35 and the other was 101 in a 65. Even with the 2 tickets I am paying $130 a month for liability, which is cheap for a GST, but I also payed for my car in full and have no loan out on it. If you are going to have to take out a loan to get the car then the bank will make you put full coverage on it and I got quoted something like $360 a month. The other thing that is going to make a difference is where you live. I live in northern minnesota. So where you live can make a difference also.

crankwalk is when the main bearings fail in the motor and the crank actually walks out of the block..

Re: Re: anyone with a 97-99 GST i have question

you shouldn't have to worry about crankwalk too much, it's pretty rare and only on the 4g63 motor built in the mid 90's... www.2gnt.com click that for non turbo performance... my insurance is like 2600/year, full coverage and i got like 6 points, i'm 25, and i live in CA... check the progressive website, it's real easy to calculate your rate and you can click for other competative rates from other companies... and don't forget to make your deductables high...

ok your wrong about the whole crankwalk thing... crankwalk can happen to the 420a motor too not just the 4g63, and it is less likly to happen between 90-92, that would be the years of the 6 bolt motor! from 93-99 they switch to the 7 bolt motor that is more likly to get it, although yes it is not a common as a lot of people make it out to be... you should really have to worry about it if your car has higher miles...like 80k and above cause if your car hasnt gotten it by then it probably wont get it!`

Re: anyone with a 97-99 GST i have question

i thought crankwalk was due to a factory defect on the crankshaft manufacture only on mid 90's 4g63 cranks...

Re: Re: anyone with a 97-99 GST i have question

ok after a little more research, i guess i came to that about mid 90's 4g63's because they are the most prone to it, although others are susceptible. but it is very rare none the less...

Re: anyone with a 97-99 GST i have question

i got a 98 gst, full coverage insurance is $150/month. i live in austin, have zero tickets or accidents, and am 23. i guess that's why. but i live in the hood and have $5K aftermarket coverage...it carried over from my crx that was actually modified.
my dsm is actually untouched...for now.

Any motor can crankwalk. Old chevy V8s did it often as well, they jus tdont call it that Its when the thrust bearig fails, not the main bearings. The crank doesnt walk out of hte block either, it only has to move .009 inches to be bad.

Not really what you are looking for, but my 95 GSX costs me 50 per month.

damn! just keep shooting my posts down..

main bearings, thrust bearings, same diff.. gimme a break I havnt owned a DSM in 2 years. im just now getting back into it. (shoot me)

and how isnt it walking out of the block? no matter if its .009" or 5" - its still "walking" out of the block. a friend of mine's old 97 GST had it very bad, to were you could actually look up at the pully and see it moving. at first we thought the pulley insert had went bad, and he needed a new pulley. but in the end CW got it.
