Maxima vs 2004 Ford Ranger and/or 1987 RX7

Im not sure the specs on the rx7

but my specs are
1997 Maxima GLE
HP 190
TQ 205

the Ranger
148-hp
TQ 185

and the rx7
supposivily has around 180
with torque 182

Yeah but besides that my friend says nothing can beat an rx7, and hes really annoying, hes like my car is light weight and it can beat ur maxima.. and i was like ok if you say so and i've beaten a BMW Wannabe M3.. with 4 people in my car and it was like a 318 or something.. but yeah mines stock the rx7 has a turbo so it does 180 horses so i dunno who would win??

Re: Maxima vs 2004 Ford Ranger and/or 1987 RX7

i think that year RX-7 is 200 hp and 196 tq. i don't know the weight of the rx but 4th gen max's are deceptively lightweight as far as 4 door 6 cylinders go but i think you might get beat. being in an auto puts you at a disadvantage. i don't know where the ford ranger comes in, but if he's racing too he's gonna be 8 car lenths behind the both of you.

Re: Maxima vs 2004 Ford Ranger and/or 1987 RX7

The 7 can never lose !!

RX-7 > Maxima > Ranger and yes, I am biased

If the RX-7 is in good shape (mechanically fine and running as it should) it will kill a stock Maxima with equal drivers.

Also, for future reference do not go by the numbers (HP and torque) they really don't mean much in the situation you are in because of all the outside factors.

If you are going by the numbers you can easily see the power to weight ratios, where the RX-7 has an advantage: 15.6 vs. 16.3 meaning do not race from a roll

unless it's turbo and/or 5 speed the maxima stands a better chance.

if it were a 5 speed weighing 3001 lbs(which is average, mine weighed 2895, according to the registration, due to certain options) that would give you a 15.7:1 power-to-weight ratio vs the rx-7's 15.6(according to maxrx7) which would be a close race. but i think you're friend has the edge.

Re: Maxima vs 2004 Ford Ranger and/or 1987 RX7

Sorry, I don't see where the RX7 can beat the 97 Max beit a turbo stick or auto, it is lightweight but it has no bottom end torque where the Max has more plus the Max's higher hp will help it build and retain it's lead on the top end.

The Ranger is a strong performer on the bottom end, the torque kicks in nicely for a truck, especially if it is the V6 with a stick, don't sleep on this one it will hang with you until about 45 or so and then you will walk on him

I raced a Ranger v6 with stick and he was with me ( I had 3 people in the car with me, plus I'm auto) until about 45 or so and then I pulled on him and smoked him badly after that.

I think the Ranger's like of aerodynamics work against it and the RX's works for it because of the low cd, especially for that year of the car because the new RXs have grown in size and their cd's have also.

Re: Maxima vs 2004 Ford Ranger and/or 1987 RX7

what are the numbers before 5-sp? power:weight?
if you were 5 speed i'd say it's too close to tell, but since you're automatic i think he'll take you. i bet it'll be within one car length whoever does win.
