Question about an engine.
Hey folks.
I seem to recall seeing an Aoshima(?) kit of a Q45/whichever it's JDM name is that had the Q45's V8 engine. Is this indeed the case, or am I just losing my marbles? And if it is the case, how's the engine detail? I'm wondering because I'm going to have a spare Datsun 240Z shell lying on my bench in the not too distant future and I'd like to do something a little different.

You are mistaken, all Q45 kit's are curbside.

Re: Question about an engine.
Is this the one you are talking about??
http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?AOS25154 I think it's just like the R32 engine, only has the top half of the engine. Not a separate unit.

Re: Question about an engine.
The JDM name, BTW, is Nissan Cima. Judging from the price points alone on those kits, I never thought they had motors in there...
But what do I know?

No Cima kit's have engines either.

The Cima High Power Unit kit has a VG30DET (V6) anyway ...if you wanted to go that route then a Tamiya 300ZX Turbo would be the best donor. All the President/Cima/Q45 kit's I have seen are kerbside. You could probably convert an American V8 to look like the old VH44 Nissan V8 quite easily though

Ah well, that's a shame.
You're right on the VG30DETT route, Ratdat. If I wanted to do that I would've swiped out of the Tamiya kit. It's a shame that there isn't a 1:24th/1:25th scale rendition of the Q45 V8 (the recent quad-cam one, I mean) since it's a quite nice engine. Perhaps if the R35 twin-turbo V8 rumors persist, we'll see the engine in kit form from Tamiya. I know I'll buy two. And I suppose it's back to Plan B.... RB, that is.

The VQ33 is a six cylinder version of the V8 I believe but I'm not sure if there are any kits with them in. I think some Nissan trucks came with VQ33's but not sure what models are available .

Re: Re: Question about an engine.
I had thought of using two tamiya TT 300zx v6's and either doing a quad turbo v12, or quad turbo v8
