Question 89 cherokee: starter and more.

What does it mean if your starter keeps trying to start, even when you have turned the key to the off position?
It's like it got stuck.

Another question: How long should a starter last before it needs to be replaced?

Any input would be helpful.

Exclamation I really do need help.

Today I am going to change the starter, I hope I am fixing the right part.
It has been starting slow on first start up and then it grinds. On the second or third start up it starts up normal. Don't know.
Though considering what happened yesterday I don't even know if it will start at all.
Well wish me luck and back at ya.
