Door Sensors
Does anyone here know of a way to check the door sensors individually, to make sure they are working right? Everyone once and a while, I will start the car, and the door ajar light stays on... which in turn forces my dome light and interior lights to remain on.. yet all 4 doors, and trunk, and secure. it happens once and a while. I has actually forced me to remove the dome light, so I can drive in the evening. I was told by the dealer that I got the car from, that each door sensor is very expensive to replace.

This is a problem with the gen 3 Taurus..... most of the time all you have to do is clean and lube them with some WD-40.

door sensors, further help
I, too, am experiencing these problems and since 95% of the time only the driver's door is in use is it likely to assume this is the sensor in need of attention? Also, could you give some idiot proof instruction on how to locate, access, and repair (clean/lube) these sensors?
Thanks in advance for any assistance. -Larry |

Re: door sensors, further help
Here is what I do, open the door spray some WD-40 or penetrating oil right into the door latch try to get it in there deep.Don't be afraid to to give it a good soaking. Open and close the door a few times it sould start working. Spray it again if ya need to. You will get some dripping out the bottom of the door a little rustproofing never hurts.

Thank you so much Bustedratchet for the great tip! I was going to take the car in to the dealership Monday! I thought it might be some electrical malfunction (I've got over 90,000 miles on the car and figured it was going downhill...
) I just went and sprayed some silicon spray on the latches and that seemed to do the trick!
