Problem with my friends 5.0

he's a got a 90 5.0. I'm only telling oyu what i know. He siad he's got no power in gears above 1st. i think he siad he had it redlined in 5th and he was only doing 60. He also mentioned a knocking. Thank you in advance

It sounds like he's got problems. I hope I'm not being to technical with my diagnosis.

Maybe his knock sensor is kaput so the timing is totally retarded.

whats a knock sensor and where can it be found? cuz i never heard of one...

I don't think it's the knock sensor. If he's redlining it in 5th gear, the car should be going a helluva lot faster than 60. Clutch? Tranny? Inaccurate info?
