I bought me 99 WJ in late August of this year ('03), and I noticed a problem with the 4WD. Because it was summer and the 2WD mode worked perfectly, I paid little attention to it and put it off until recently. I had asked about it a few months ago, but I was told that it would probably just be that the transfer case needed some oil to let the gears engage completely.
On Dec. 3, I took it back to the shop, and as the guy was looking underneath to see exactly what he needed to do, he casually said "You don't have a front drive shaft." The weird thing is that the couplings are perfect except for some rust, as if the shaft had been purposely taken off! I have pictures of them on my site: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/442850/6. I am not even going to get into why this was done, or why it wasn't cought by the dealer. My question is, does anyone know where I can get a NEW drive shaft for less than $450? I was quoted $469 by the shop, but I don't want to pay that much. Any help appreciated!
