Question exhaust knocking!

My car is not n timimng and i hear a knock by the exhaust, is it normal?
It starts and it moves but theres a knock by the exhaust..
What shoould i look at?
Distribuitor?
spark plugs?
What else?
Should i move the timing again?
timing light gun?? would i need it? what is it for?

So you moved the distributor without testing what you did with a timing gun? Not the best idea. Definetly go out and get one, autozone, sears, almost everyone sells them for cheap. So it idles and revs smoothly? If it starts and runs I'd say its prolly set in the head right, just way out of adjustment, could be off by a tooth in the head though. How old are the plugs? Wouldn't hurt to get new ones since there $3 a peice. I'll just have to wait till you get back with readings from the gun to be able to tell whats going on alittle more. Probably way to advanced though, so advanced thats your actually hearing the knocking (not good at all if that's what it is). Anyway heres alittle write-up on setting the timing. Also check your codes while your at it.
