Most certainly. Do a search on this in here. There was a pretty long discussion about it. Really, all you have to do is bypass the clutch which is real easy to do. Some makers make units just for manual cars that you have to go through some hoops in order to get them to start the car. If you want to use any remote start, I recomend using a motion sensor (the kind that actually detects movement of the car and not impacts) so if the car takes off, the sensor will kill the starter.

Re: Remote car starters for manual??

It can be done with some ease but me personally i would think twice about doing it,I would never put one on my eclipse because of safety reasons, but i do install them for my work on manuals.Do what ponchonutty suggest and use the motion detector it is the best way to go about it

Well, actually your car would be one of the easiest to learn on since most of the wire connections are very easy to get at. It's just that if you do happen to wire something wrong, you could have major problems. It would be hard to really screw things up on your car though. It's nothing like if you fail to energize the white wire on GM trucks. IF you do, it usually results in tranny failure. Or, if you try domelight supervision on a '98 Caravan. Most people who try it without knowing what to do fry the BCM. As Martha Stewart says..."It's not a good thing".

I caution you more on installing in a manual car. If that thing takes off, it's nasty. Even installing a motion sensor is not 100%

Re: Remote car starters for manual??

check with your state laws, i hear that's illegal on manual cars. poses a safety issue somehow. double check that i could be wrong but recall reading that somewhere.

i heard some kits make you push in the clutch 3 times to turn on the remote starter before leaving your car, as a reminder to keep your car in neutral.

but the motion sensor i believe is a must.

I would suspect any local shop would have what you need. Big chain guys might try not to sell you it without installation and might look like a deer in the headlights when you ask for it to go on a manual car.

Re: Remote car starters for manual??

i work in a shop and i have seen incidents where techs have use the remote starter to start a manual car and the car has taken off on them.
on most units, before turning off your car, u have to honld the clutch down. by doing that u are sending a message to the computer saying that the clutch is depressed.

OK then. Buy a simple 5 pin relay. #85 is power, #86 is (-) triggered from remote start. Cut one of the wires that go to the clutch switch. On one side of the wire, connect #30 and on the other side of the wire, connect #87a.

This of course, is for the type of car that the clutch circuit needs to be open inorder for the starter to be engaged which should be the way yours is.
