Brake Grinding....
the car is a kia sedona. changed the brake pads a few days ago. brakes seems fine one day after installation. no squeaks, rattles, whatsoever. 2 days passed brakes make a loud grinding sound!! btw i used an aftermarket brake pad kit thats made in japan, (im sure its better than OEM thats made in korea) and it says in the box that its a non-asbestos type brake pad.
when the brakes are cold, theres no "grinding" noise yet. but when i drive a couple of miles and the brakes warm up, thats when that noise appears. its like metal to metal and its driving me nuts!!!1 do brake pads & brake discs need sanding before installation? or is there a "break-in" process for newly installed brake pads?? another thing though im in asia.....thanks in advance peeps... |

I dont often hear of brake noise that severe. All I can reccomend is taking them apart again, and checking everything. Make sure the pads aren't dirty, and that everything is assembled correctly.

Re: Brake Grinding....
Does the grinding noise happen when the car is going slow almost at a complete stop? If so I've seen this many times. Is there a better grade of pad available ? if not I'd try O.E.M. pads.

yup exactly. whatchathink my new pads are not compatible? is there such an incident like that? bad news is if its in the new pads i can't return em anymore. ill have to buy another set. tsk. tsk.....guess ill stick with O.E.M. patton, i brought it back to the shop yesterday to have it checked. saw it myself. everything seems to be in their proper place, contact between the pad & the disc is clean..what else do i have to look for? |

Re: Re: Re: Brake Grinding....
The pads are compatible as far as the coefficient of friction and should meet a minimum government safety requirement. I don't know what parts are like to get In Asia, but here the partsman asks if you want cheaper pads or more expensive pads. Is there a ceramic pad available ?
These pads work nice on many cars with minimal noise and dust. |

btw the one im using says its a "non-asbestos" type of pad... if my old were not this type, what changes would i encounter in my braking system?

Asbestos, non-asbestos, it doesn't make a difference in how well the work. The only difference is that the non-asbestos ones wont create cancer causing dust. The problem has nothing to do with the fact that the pads are non-asbestos. Normally brake noise isn't a hard problem to solve, but when the noise is as severe as you described, it is quite odd. Does your car have all wheel disc brakes? If so, are you sure that the noise is coming from your front brakes?

Re: Brake Grinding....
It is better if you resarfaced the rotor discs, lubricate retainers and shims. Later, anything wrong (noisy) that's because of a bad quality brake pads.
