Check the OptiSpark and waterpump Those are one of the few problems those cars have. They are located near the bottom of the motor and the OptiSpark is right UNDER the water pump. Whoever the idiot was that designed the accesories placement should be shot.
Anyways, the OptiSpark is basically another name for the coilpack. Often times the waterpump will leak water when it goes bad, and the water seeps into the OptiSpark. Both go BYE BYE. Those are the most common.

Hey man. I'll in the Bay Area which isn't too far from Sac. I too am looking for a Camaro with a V8. but I'd love to own a Pewter one with an LS1.

Rear intake manifold leak is very common on higher mileage LT1's.93-94 lt1's did not have a vented optispark so that makes those models a little more suseptable to break down.If the car you buy is a 94,you can replace it with a 95-97 Optispark which is vented and will allow for some water drainage if water gets in there.Don't pressure wash the motor because of the opti.If you do and it runs sh!tty let it dry for a day thats the only way fix the wet opti.
1.Intake manifold leak--look for wetness front and back sides. 2.Optispark--if you really like a particular model have the pcm scanned for codes. This will also let you know any other codes that might be on! 3.Try to purchase one that has not had any performance modifications done to it. A.Stock cars are prolly better buys than modded ones' due to abuse, hard driving,etc...but remember you are buying a sports car so they've all been driven hard at some point. B.It is way more fun to purchase and install performance parts yourself A little self gratification and you will learn more and more about your car first hand 4.Have fun and look around til you find the best deal with the options you want.Make sure the car has not been previously in a car accident. Use carfax, very good piece of mind! 5.Good Luck with your move and have fun with your Z! |

Look into buying a aftermarket warranty for car. I paid $800. for my 94 when I bought it a few years ago and I had the Pcm and transmission done over for a total of $50. for each occurance. It would have cost me $1,100. if I paid it out of pocket. I still have 16,000 miles left on the warranty at this point so it's a free ride so to speak at this point. Some people will argue against this but I don't have all the equipment , room, or time to do major repairs such as Trans remove and what such. So for me it was worth it.
Insurance? I have no idea for your age group what it will cost. I was in my late 40's when I got my Z. $(550/yr). Have a pro mechanic that knows these cars to look at it before you buy if possible. Like the previous posts said . But be aware that some people remove mods before selling to give the impression that the car was stock and not abused. There isn,t much you can do abou that unless you tear it apart thus the warranty becomes more of a value. Good luck...:flash: |
