Middle East
I noticed no one has mentioned this topic and I wondered exactly what the feeling was about this issue.
Right now there is a great deal of bloodshed going on over in Israel and Palestine. Here we have to governments that need to come to terms and formulate a plan to bring peace to the table. However, it appears as though things are being said and no one is hearing them. Palestinians say that they want their land to be recognized by Israel, yet they allow suicide bombers to go over their and kill innocent civilians. I don't know which is worse, a suicide bomber or a nuclear bomb. Either one can kill a number of people, but which one has the deadliest accuracy. Then we have Israel, which for the most part has taken the initiative to meet at the table, but is stubborn to compromise. They still want to keep their hands in the cookie jar so to speak, but say they will talk. In my opinion, there are a few things that need to be viewed. One is, Isreal was given that land by the U.S. Which also means that it was taken away from the Arab world. There has long been the battle over the Gaza Strip which both sides claim belongs to them. But which one really does have ownership? The ones given the land or the ones the occupied it long before? When does it become "everyone else's business"? Right now the majority of the Arab world is looking at this as an intrusion of Muslim land and are deeply offended. You have them calling this "Organized Terrorism". But in the same light you have to wonder how this country, The United States, can not label Yasser Arafat a harborer of terrorist just because he was at the table. He still has people that work directly for him sending men and young adults to blow themselves up in the crowdiest places. So now, having said all this, I would like to hear what AF thinks on this whole situation. I would like opinions. If you care to provide facts along with your statements, by all means, go right ahead. On a side note, this is a serious discussion. Any posts made that are not relevant to this topic will be deleted, no questions asked. Please contribute to this topic with the seriousness that I am treating it. Thank you.

This is an interesting issue, My views on it though may be different too alot of other peoples (so please don't get too offended).
Well the land around there 2000 years ago, used to be all jewish, but then they were driven off by the arabs (history shortened to basic). So thats why the jews have gone so long without a homeland. So after world war II, the UN and US decided to give the Jews a homeland again. Of course they put it where Israel is today, but the problem is it was un-defencable!!! So thats why Israel took more land in the 6day war (not sure of date), slowly they have given some land back. Then it is now todays situation.. So today you have both countries fighting over areas of land like the gaza strip, etc. Other countries like Lebanon and Jordan occasionaly have attacked Israel as well. But I believe no matter how many peace talks and concessions there are, there can never be peace there. Why do I think this.... Name me a war, where there has never been a winner (ie a stalemate has happened) and peace has occured??!!!! The closest i know of is North and South Korea, and still look at the issues between them!! So what I believe the rest of the world should do, is keep a watchful eye on it (too stop the conflict spreading into other countries), and let the two countries fight it out. Its now their problem not the rest of the worlds!! sarujin

Isreal is not going to die as a country as the hard line Arabs want. They will defend themselves. The Palastinians are led by a terrorist who clearly doesnt want the land. He had an offer for 95% of what he wanted and he walked away from it and imediately increased the number of suicide bombings. Until there is new leadership on the Palestinian side of the conflict - there will be no end in sight. In fact the only way this can end with the way things are is if there is an all out war.
I know the Isrealies haven't been saintly to the occupied territories during the conflict, but they are sure not going to sit around as their citizens are slaughtered. They ask for a few days of no violence. Arafat says "we'll see" and promptly sends in some kid with explosives to kill whoever he can. Yup. There is a recipe for a peace.

I believe if you get rid of arafat and get someone else in there through legitimate elections that the palenstinian people elected, that would go a long way towards creating peace.
As much as the leaders of the arab world say they are with the palenstinian, there have been many occasions where they themselves have kicked out thousands of palestinians from their own countries and others have outright killed them. On another note, the israeli's were going to finally pull out from this military advance, and then what happened?? some more people were killed via terrorism, so the tanks came right back and shit.. If arafat really wanted peace, that type of shit wouldn't happen.. |
