'89 Caprice Wagon/307 Questions/Problems
Hi All.
Where to begin? I got the car off eBay, picked it up and drove it home (about 1000 miles) this weekend. It's pretty much what I expected, though the seller failed to mention a few things. I like it a great deal, though, and just need to fix a few things. First, I noticed (when going in to replace the valve cover gaskets, no less) that the air cleaner housing is full of oil. It seems to be coming from what I assume is the PCV valve (top of D/S valve cover?). Is this indeed the PCV? When I remove the hose connecting it to the air cleaner, air is visbly rushing out of it relative to RPM. Any thoughts you might have on this would be super. Also, I can't find the RPO codes I heard mentioned elsewhere. I'd be interested to find out the final drive and such, any ideas? Could anyone tell me where the brakelight switch/torque converter lockup control could be tapped into to control the lockup in O/D? Pressing the pedal isn't really working out for me, because the pedal acts up a bit. Again, any help would be appreciated. The goal with this is to keep it in good running order for as long as possible for interstate trips and such, and run it in to the ground. At that point, I'd be interested in looking into an engine swap. I was, of course, thinking 350/700r4, but who knows, it's a long way off. Are there any good resources around that could teach me more? I've done engine swaps in four cylinders and am a heavy diesel mechanic by trade, the work doesn't scare me, but I do want to make educated decisions. I've gone on long enough, thanks for any help you can offer. Allen
